“Women” in Landscapes (2021)

This audio/visual piece was created in response to a poem from 1923 called "Women" by Louise Bogan and aims to illustrate how interactions between a woman and nature may have changed almost 100 years after the poem was written. The photos were taken on a DSLR in a way that was observant, but not confrontational. Power is one of the more important themes in this piece, with symbolism such as the dark veil and flowers. Each photo is paired with a stanza of the poem and serves to both challenge and illustrate the narrative.

“The Good Wife’s Guide” (2021)

Featuring quotes from a 1955 Housekeeping Monthly article titled “The Good Wife’s Guide”, this series was created by women using modern technology to highlight the gap between these older standards for women and where we are now. The model’s movements are stiff to imitate a “perfect” doll, and each photo is framed as if the viewer is peering into a doll box in a store.

These photos were taken on a DSLR and edited in photoshop to create the sparkly background and mild oil paint effect on the model’s skin, hair, and clothes, similar to the oil painted advertisements of the 1950s. The three fonts were also previously used in 1950s advertisements.
